On July 2, 2025, congatec GmbH, a leading supplier of embedded and edge computing technology based in Germany, announced its acquisition of a majority stake in the module business of Kontron AG. The transaction encompasses JUMPtec GmbH in Deggendorf, Germany, a pioneer in standardized computer modules, as well as Kontron America Modules LLC and Kontron Asia Embedded Design Sdn. Bhd. This move strengthens congatec's global influence and market leadership in standardized computer-on-modules (COMs).
congatec will take over JUMPtec¡¯s existing product lines, including COM-HPC, COM Express, SMARC, and Qseven modules, along with their inventory. Existing JUMPtec customers can expect unchanged business relationships, ensuring a stable and reliable product supply.
Expanded Access to aReady Software Suite
congatec will extend its aReady software suite to compatible JUMPtec module users. This allows JUMPtec customers to leverage congatec¡¯s aReady.VT virtualization technology and aReady.IOT software. Additionally, customers can opt for pre-installed and configured operating systems, such as Canonical¡¯s Ubuntu Pro or Bosch Rexroth¡¯s ctrlX OS. This expansion enhances the efficiency and time-to-market benefits of the aReady.COM platform for a broader customer base.
Enhanced Collaboration for Competitive Solutions
The acquisition strengthens congatec¡¯s existing manufacturing and engineering collaboration with Kontron, unlocking new synergies in the development, production, and deployment of computer modules. Beyond JUMPtec¡¯s module portfolio, Kontron can integrate congatec¡¯s full product range into its own solutions and system development. This enables both companies to sharpen their market focus, leverage core competencies, and deliver greater value to customers through streamlined cooperation.
Konrad Garhammer, congatec¡¯s Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the benefits of the partnership: ¡°By joining forces with JUMPtec, we gain valuable expertise, an experienced technical team, and a complementary product portfolio. This allows us to optimize R&D processes and accelerate innovation. Global module customers will benefit from cutting-edge products, richer options, and faster adoption of new technologies.¡±
Dr. Dominik Ressing, congatec¡¯s Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the strategic importance of the transaction: ¡°This acquisition is a key milestone in our growth strategy and a natural extension of our partnership with Kontron. It reinforces our position as a leading supplier of embedded and edge computing solutions while enhancing our product portfolio and development capabilities. We can now deliver innovative, application-ready, high-performance ecosystems more quickly¡ªfrom standalone modules and optimized thermal solutions to carrier board designs, implementation support, testing services, and customized aReady.COM platforms. This offers significant advantages to both JUMPtec and congatec customers, as well as compelling options for new users of our modules.¡±
